Support
In the app, “Account” opens from your icon at the top left of the camera screen. The steps below start from there.
If someone makes you uncomfortable
Report
In Chat, long-press the other person's message bubble, choose “Report”, pick a reason, and send. You can add a note too.
Reports are never revealed to the other person. The cheese team reviews the content and responds generally within 24 hours. As needed, we delete messages or clips, remove people from groups, or suspend accounts.
We may not be able to reply to every report individually.
Block
From the same long-press menu, choose “Block”. They won't be notified.
Here's what blocking does:
- Your one-on-one chat with that person disappears from both of your screens (the messages aren't deleted and come back if you unblock)
- In group chats, only that person's messages are hidden
- You no longer get notifications for that person's messages
On the other hand, some things don't stop. That person stays in the same group, and their clips stay in the Log. If you want more distance, leave the group or ask the group's owner to remove them.
Unblocking someone
Go to Account → People → Blocked people. Their messages are hidden, so you can't unblock from inside a chat.
If you're in immediate danger
If you receive content that makes you fear for your safety or that involves a threat to life, report it in the app and also contact the police (110 in Japan) or the relevant authorities. The cheese team is not an emergency service.
About your account
Do I need to sign up?
No. When you open the app, an 8-character ID like Q7F2-KX9M is issued automatically. No email address or phone number is used. You can see your ID on the Account screen.
Switching phones (using the same account on another device)
- On your old device, go to Account → Transfer → Get a transfer code. Your ID and an 8-digit code appear.
- On the new device, open cheese and enter the ID and code under Transfer from another device on the first “Gender and birthday” screen (or Account → Transfer → Transfer from another device).
- Once the transfer is done, the account on the old device can no longer be used.
The code is valid for only 10 minutes after it's issued and stops working once used. After 5 wrong attempts it locks, so issue a new one on the old device. You can cancel a code at any time with “Revoke”.
I lost my phone or reset it
If you didn't issue a transfer code, there's no way back to that account. Account credentials exist only on the device, and the cheese team can't restore them either. On the new device, you'll start over with a new ID. Always get a transfer code before switching phones.
Changing your gender or birthday
Go to Account → Profile → Gender and birthday. Group members can't see them.
Changing your name
Go to Account → Profile → Name to set a name of up to 24 characters. If you leave it empty, only your ID is shown.
About your data
Seeing your data
Contact us at the address below with your account ID. We'll send you the account information the cheese team holds and a list of your stored clips.
Deleting your account
Go to Account → Delete account → Delete account, then choose “Delete” in the confirmation dialog. Your account, display name, and every clip you shot are deleted immediately and removed from group records too. This can't be undone. After deletion, you start fresh with a new ID.
Who can see my clips?
Only people in the same group. There's no public timeline, and clips never show up in search.
The one exception is packs published to “Community challenges”. A pack's name, description, challenges, and the creator's display name can be seen by anyone using the app, and they show up in search. If you don't want that, choose sharing by share code when you create the pack. For details, see the Privacy Policy.
